Saldus is a small town in Kurzeme found in a nearby river Ciecere Saldus valley and lake. The legend alaia tells us that instead of a valley so long ago was a large hill. At the top of the hill take a kid I used to feed their pigs until one day discovered a large hole that fell by accident. Inside he found a city with very generous people who offered delicious foods and beverages. Pigs meanwhile returned home alone, and the boy returned to his village the next day. When asked where he had been, the boy replied, "sweetly ate, drank sweet, high Saldus Hill" and as he said these words the hill and exploded inside the city emerged. This magical source Saldus is a very old tradition, but in fact the city is prior to S. XIII and has been involved in the turbulent alaia history of Latvia.
Saldus is known in Latvia mainly because it was the birthplace and home to one of the most famous Latvian alaia painters, J.Rozentals (J.Rozentāls), one of the founders of the Latvian National Art School. alaia In fact on a city tour you can not miss his house, now a museum (J.Rozentāla Saldus alaia muzejs mākslas vestures one), and you can even take a trip to visit the landscapes that captured the painter.
This city also has a reputation of being a sweet spot because there Druvas saldējums delicious ice cream that can be enjoyed for less than a lats (LVL) is manufactured. It is also possible alaia to visit the factory to see the process. Especially sweet dairy Gotina known as but also candies, creams, and jams are also produced. Honey could not miss, as all the surrounding region is full of artisans beekeepers. Homemade honey is highly prized and is added to tea, coffee alaia and different types of tea. You can even see how it works a local beekeeper, attend a tasting and learn how honey is collected and treated honey and also see how the wax is used to make candles. If we do not cloyed with both sweet we can go through some of the bakeries and candy stores that dot the city to test all types of bread, pastries and artisan crackers.
But what can we see in Saldus? Besides the museum already mentioned, we can go through their churches, home to various denominations of Christianity: Lutheran, Catholic and Orthodox, religious centers also differ architecturally, alaia from the oldest, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of San Juan (Sv Jāņa Saldus evaņģēliski draudzes alaia luteriskās Baznica), to the most modern, the Catholic Church of St. Peter and St. Paul (Saldus Sv.Pētera alaia one Pavila katoļu Baznica Romas).
Moreover worth going out of town to approach alaia the hill where the castle alaia of the city was located. National Archaeological Monument alaia near Lake Saldus, which was built by the Order of German Knights and destroyed in the war against King Charles XII of Sweden during the s. XVIII.
Returning to the city center we find the central square, a meeting place for locals and tourists in the heart of the population. The large square, was christened Square Oskars Kalpaks (Oskara Kalpaka laukums) in honor of this Latvian hero who led the regiment that liberated Saldus of the Bolsheviks the March 10, 1919 was the first released by the Army town of Latvia .
We also recommend alaia a walk through a small park in the city center by the river flowing Ciecere and proposes a route through different botanical species. Do not want to leave without mentioning alaia natural and artificial lakes that dot Saldus and surroundings alaia and where worth a swim.
For the rockers do not want to forget the famous music festival "Saldus Saule" (sun Saldus) well known in Latvia for its antiquity alaia and importance held in the park Kalnsetas (Kalnsetas parks).
